Raymond Wu has won the March 2010 Red Dragon Main Event, taking home HK$664,000 after an impressive showing that saw him triumph over a record field of 321 players at the Grand Lisboa Hotel and Casino in Macau. His most recent victory follows earlier successes in London and the Bahamas, and Wu’s red-hot streak is showing no signs of abating.
Using his signature aggressive style, Wu accumulated chips from just about every one of his opponents at the final table. Early on, he doubled up to nearly 400,000 in chips when his pocket threes made a set on the turn against pocket aces. The Taiwanese pro, who is also a member of Team PokerStars Asia, continued to call the shots at the table by relentlessly pushing the action, knocking out Japan’s Okina Takayuki with a flopped pair of jacks against pocket eights.
After eliminating two more players, Wu found himself heads-up with fellow Taiwanese player, Wei-En Shi. Wu put himself in a commanding position by chipping away at Shi’s stack, and it wasn’t long before the latter was forced to make his last stand by pushing all-in before the flop with Q♥ 2♥. Wu instantly called with 7♥ 7♦, and the board ran out K♣ 2♠ 6♠ 9♠ 8♦ to end proceedings after three days of play. As a consolation prize, Shi picked up HK$458,000.
The complete results for the final table were as follows:
